The project path

Six steps. Clear approval points.

01 · Send the project brief

Provide the intended application, quantity, target date and delivery country. Include the current CAD and drawing revision, or explain which information is still being developed.

Your checkpoint: confirm what the prototype must demonstrate.

02 · Review feasibility

Discuss geometry, material, accessible features, support removal, machining and inspection needs. Process suitability is assessed for the actual part; catalogue examples are not blanket capability guarantees.

Your checkpoint: resolve open technical questions.

03 · Agree the quotation

Check the material grade, manufacturing route, quantities, post-processing, inspection, included documents and exclusions. Confirm shipping, commercial terms and the schedule basis.

Your checkpoint: approve the written scope.

04 · Release the correct revision

Identify the approved files and part numbers. If a drawing changes, obtain written confirmation of its cost and delivery impact before releasing the change.

Your checkpoint: confirm the production revision.

05 · Review agreed evidence

Use the inspection plan and agreed records to review the prototype. Where a first-article stage is included, complete the agreed approval before proceeding to a repeat batch.

Your checkpoint: assess against defined acceptance criteria.

06 · Arrange delivery and next steps

Confirm the consignee, packaging, part identification and documents required. Record feedback against the supplied revision before planning any design change or repeat order.

Your checkpoint: retain the order and revision records.

What affects cost and timing?

Quote the whole part,
not only the print.

Geometry, material availability, build orientation, support removal, post-machining, finish, inspection and quantity can all change the project scope.

Lead time is confirmed in the written quotation. Do not assume a universal turnaround from a catalogue example.

Common project questions.

Can I enquire without a finished CAD model?

Yes. Explain the application and share non-sensitive sketches, reference dimensions or interface information. State that the design is incomplete. Any design work, file conversion or drawing preparation must be separately agreed; it is not automatically included.

Which files should I prepare?

Prepare a 3D CAD model such as STEP and a dimensioned PDF drawing where available. Confirm accepted formats before transfer. Identify units, revision, material, critical dimensions, threads and finish. A mesh alone may not define tolerances or manufacturing intent.

Can I request one prototype before a batch?

Include your prototype quantity and expected follow-on quantity in the brief. Ask for separate pricing and an agreed sample-approval stage. Feasibility, minimum quantities and repeat-order terms are confirmed per project.

What happens when I revise the design?

Send the new revision and a clear change summary. Do not assume an email attachment automatically replaces an approved production file. Obtain written confirmation of the accepted revision and any cost or schedule change.

Are these certified vehicle or aircraft replacement parts?

No such qualification is implied. These are custom development enquiries. Road, race, flight and other safety-critical applications require the relevant engineering validation and approvals. Aerospace catalogue examples focus on ground-test fixtures and tooling.

A complete brief makes the next step clearer.
